A Christmas Birthday

Hello Friends!  As I finish up remodeling my craft room, I continue to put together cards and projects through my Simple Sunday videos.  This week I am making a Christmas Birthday card -- an alternative to the cards found in the October Paper Pumpkin Kit.  It is a very simple option and a nice card to share with someone you know has a birthday in December.  Check out my video to see what it's all about.

All the materials you need are supplies from the October Paper Pumpkin Kit, Cozy Christmas, and the gift provided in door #4 from our 12 Days of Crafting Advent Calendar.

I basically took a different card base and a layer piece.  Dressed up one of the punch-outs a bit differently and added a label from our Advent calendar.  Very simple, but very nice.

If you don't have the October Paper Pumkin Kit, you can do the same type of thing with any of the kits you may have purchased from Stampin' Up!  Let your creative juices go and have fun with it!  Join me next Sunday, November 9th to see what we did with the gift provided in door #5 and what prize is found behind door #6!

Click on the product(s) below that you wish to purchase and have fun!

Happy Crafting!

Hello Crafters!  I don't know about you, but I love this 12 Days of Crafting Advent Calendar!  We are going through this one week at a time, which will lead us right up to Christmas!  Don't be confused, this isn't a Christmas advent calendar.  It is a crafting advent calendar.

Last week, we revealed what was behind door #3--embellishments that can be used to adhere to a card, but they make great shaker cards!  I combined this month's Paper Pumpkin Kit, Cozy Christmas, with our embellishments to create this week's card.  The Paper Pumpkin Kit provides all that you will need for three different designs to make a total of nine cards.  I decided to create an alternative card to this kit by making my shaker card.

These are the products used for this weeks' demonstration:

Side Note:  If you have already subscribed to Paper Pumpkin, you can purchase the refill kit.  If you haven't subscribed, this kit, and  the refills will not be available to you.  Even so, you will be able to create similar shaker cards using the many kits that Stampin' Up! provides or create your own!

PAPER

  • October Paper Pumpkin Kit -- Cozy Christmas
  • Window Sheets

INK

  • Versamark Ink Pad
  • Pecan Pie (provided in the kit)

ADHESIVES

  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue
  • Foam Adhesive Strips
  • Wow! Metallic Gold Embossing Powder

TOOLS

  • Paper Snips
  • Take Your Pick Tool
  • Take Your Pick Crafter Tips
  • Embossing Additions
  • Paper Trimmer
The first thing I did was take the basic card and the layer piece that go together in the kit.  Then, I placed the delicate ornament punch out on the layer piece, using just a little bit of washi tape to hold it in place.  I then traced around the ornament with a pencil and, using my paper snips, cut the outline out.

I then took a window sheet 3-3/4 by 3-1/4 and adhered the delicate ornament punch-out to the window sheet using the multipurpose liquid glue -- just dotting around the image.  It will adhere nicely to the window sheet.

I took the inside ornament punch out and glued that to the base card, making sure it is in the correct place to match up with my window sheet.

I used the Foam Adhesive Strips to place around the backside of the layered piece, placing one strip to go across the top, a strip on both sides, a middle strip to place at the top of the window sheet, and then I had a strip ready to adhere when I completed adding the embellishments. The foam all around the window sheet will keep the embellishments from falling out.  If you have any beaded embellishments, you can add a few of those to help the movement of all the embellishments.  After adding the embellishments, I sealed the bottom with my last strip of the foam strips.

Next, I added the hanger image that you punch out, my sentiment, and some embellishments that were included in the kit.

I chose to emboss my sentiment with the Gold Embossing Powder, although the Pecan Pie Ink Pad provided in the kit is sufficient.

Treat Packages for all Occasions

Last weekend, I spent time with friends making treat packages.  We were making them for Christmas, but these packages can also be used as party favors, for birthdays, or for any occasion.  I did a video on this last November; however, it is such a fun, favorite project that I felt it was worth showing it again.  This time, I have added a template for you to follow.  You can find the products used by going to my shop, or click on the image below to get to the product.

For this video, I used Elegant Pine Snowflakes 12 X 12 Designer Series Paper and the Greetings For You Mix and Match Ephemera pack.

Other products you will need for this project:

  • Paper Trimmer
  • Bone Folder
  • Ribbon of your choice

First thing you will need is a piece of 6"x 6" of Designer Series Paper

  • Next, you will score at 1-1/2", 2-3/4", 4-1/4", 5-1/2"
  • Turn your paper one turn to the left and score at 1-1/4"
  • Fold all your score lines.

Now it's time for your cuts:

  • Find the little rectangle on the skinniest end of your score lines. (shown in blue) Cut that rectangle completely out.
  • Look at the 1-1/4" score line.  (You should be holding your paper with that score line at the bottom).  Cut at each of the other score lines up to the 1-1/4" line.  You will end up with 4 tabs at the bottom.
You can go to my video to see how it's assembled.  Thanks for visiting today.  Happy Stamping!

Paper Coffee Mug

I had created a paper coffee mug last Christmas.  I found a mug creation that is bigger and stronger.  I found this from Lisa Bernard-Queen B Creations.  I absolutely love this design!

Here's what you will need:

PAPER

Forming the Coffee Mug:
  • Choose an 8-1/2" X 11" Cardstock, and cut off an inch to make it 7-1/2" X 11"
  • With the 11" side at the top, score at 1-1/2", 3", 4-1/2", 6", 7-1/2", 9", 10-1/2"
  • With the 7-1/2" side at the top, score at 2" and 5-1/2" (both sides should be at 2")
  • Burnish all score lines
  • On the 7-1/2" side, cut off the 1/2" ends and leave the middle section as a tab.
  • On the 11-1/2" side, cut all score lines to the horizontal score line. Do this on both sides.
  • Pick a side and fold each tab over, adhering with the Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
Making the Handle:
  • Cut the 1" Strip at 6" (this will be for the handle).  Cutting an extra 1" strip at 6" will make the handle even stronger.  Please put the strip(s) aside for later.
Decorate with Designer Series Paper:
  • Cut your DSP paper 3" X 3-3/8", the cut 1-3/8" X 3-3/8" strips (there should be a total of 7 strips)
  • When using the patterned paper, keep the pattern in alignment so the strips are in order.  Adhere with the Multipurpose Liquid Glue. (Be sure to glue around the edges with a fine line)

Assembling the Coffee Mug:
  • Using Tear n' Tape on the tab (using two pieces of tape), adhere the two ends of the cup together.
  • Glue the bottom pieces, with Multipurpose Liquid Glue, joining opposite ends of the tabs.
  • Using the same-colored cardstock as the cup, cut a 3" circle to place on the bottom of the mug, giving the cup a finished look
  • If possible, place the paper mug in a 3" glass to hold it in place while you put it together.
Finish with the handle:
  • Take the two 6" pieces and glue them together.
  • Curl the thick piece with a bone folder (like curling ribbon)
  • Use Tear 'n Tape on the ends (two little strips) and adhere the handle on the mug, lining it up where the inside overlap is.

ADHESIVES
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue
  • Tear 'n Tape

Backpack Gift Box

A couple of friends and I are gathering to create treat packages for some teachers. I found these great treat boxes that look like a backpack!  One backpack holds about 3 oz. of candy and a small candy bar in the front pocket.  It can also contain things like a 3' X 3" Post-it note pad and a keychain Sharpie.  It would be an excellent box to give a teacher as a back-to-school gift!  This idea is from Julie DiMatteo, from Paper Pixie. I fell in love with it the minute I found it.

Here's what you will need to make these stinkin' cute gift boxes!  After you have made all your cuts and score lines, watch the video to see how it is put together.

    • Rotate clockwise and score along the 8" side at 1-1/2", 6", 6-1/2"
    • Rotate counter-clockwise and score along the 11" side between the 2nd and 3rd horizontal score lines at 4-1/2" and 9-3/4"
  • Cardstock (pocket) 4" X 8"
    • Score along the 8" side at 3-1/4", 3-3/4", 7", and 7-1/2"
    • Rotate clockwise and score along the 4" side at 1/2", 2-1/2", and 3"
  • Cardstock (handle) 4-1/2" X 1/2"
    • Score along the 4-1/2" side at 1" from each side
