2 - More Watercolor Techniques

To do either of these watercolor techniques, you will need:

  • Shimmery White Paper
  • Card base: 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" cardstock, folded at 4-1/4"(your choice of color)
  • Layer: 5-1/4" x 4" cardstock (your choice of color)
  • Basic Embossing Powders
  • Heat Tool
  • Adhesives

Emboss Resist

This technique is one of my favorites.  Using the Versa Mark ink, you stamp your image.  Then after you have stamped your image, you emboss it with white embossing powder. After melting the powder with your heat gun, you can color the image.  It makes a beautiful card!

My original card shows inks: Petal Pink, Fresh Fresia, Soft Seafoam and Early Espresso to color myimage.  I used the Cottage Rose stamp set and dies to create the image I wanted to use.  I chose my sentiment from the Hues of Happiness Stamp Set.  I embossed that with the Black Embossing Powder. The ribbon was adhered with Stampin' Seal and the image and sentiment with Stampin' Dimensionals. I chose the 5/8" Rose Gold and White Striped ribbon and the Brushed Metallic Adhesive Backed Dots for my embellishments. I added a bit more sparkle with our Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

The example that I showed on the video are inks: Rich Razzleberry, and Old Olive.  Using my VersaMark stamp pad I stamped an image from the Hues of Happiness Stamp Set.  I then took my White Embossing Powder and poured some over the stamped image.  Next, I melted that powder with my heat tool.  From there I squeezed the top and bottom of each ink pad to create a "pool" of ink on the inside lid.  Using my aqua painter, I dipped into that ink and began to color my image.  While painting over the image, the embossed areas resisted the ink to show the details of the stamped image.

Block Water Spritzing

Another way of doing a fun water technique is with the use of our stamping blocks.  This is really easy to do and makes a fun creative card!  Choosing a group of two or more colors, you stamp the ink on your stamping block.  Using a stamping spritzer, you spray some water on the stamping block and then stamp the block on your watercolor paper. I used our Shimmery White Paper. Depending upon how much water you spray on your block determines how much the colors blend together.

For my original card, I used the inks Tahitian Tide and Parakeet Party for my block stamp and Early Espresso to stamp my images.  Using the Nothing's Better Than Stamp Set I created a simple, yet fun
card with this technique.

In the video I used the Pale Papaya, Fresh Freesia and Early Espresso Inks, and again the Nothing's Better Than Stamp Set.

3 - Quick Watercolor Techniques

This month has been dubbed as World Watercolor Month.  It's been a crazy month for me with work and all, and I'm finally getting around to doing some watercoloring.  I've never done this type of creative stamping before, and to my surprise there are many ways of doing it! It's been fun learning and trying each one! My team has been challenged to make cards with many of these. Today and the rest of this week, I am going to show you nine different watercolor techniques.  Enjoy!

For each project you will need:

  • Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper or
  • Shimmery White Paper
  • Aqua Painters
  • A small dish of water
  • Paper Towel
  • Grid Paper
  • Inks of your choice

No Line Watercoloring

With a neutral color, you will want to stamp an image on your paper. I used Crumb Cake in my example. I used the Daffodil Daydream Stamp Set.   Choose your color and squeeze both sides of your ink pad to get some ink on the inside cover.  I used Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron and Garden Green. Take your aqua painter and dip it into the ink on the inside of the lid of your ink pad.  Then begin to color your image.  The more detailed your image is, the longer it will take you to complete your project.  So, if you like to color, you're going to love this technique!

Watercolor Wash

This technique is probably the easiest.  It just creates a great background for an image that you want to add to your card.  There are three steps.

  1. Choose the colors you want to use.
  2. Wet your paper.
  3. Add your color.
Again, you will need to squeeze the sides of your ink pads together to get the ink that you will need.
I used Petal Pink, Polished Pink and Fresh Freesia.  If you get too much water on the card, the paper will begin to curl.  Just let it dry really well and you will be able to work with it.

Stamp & Blend

In this technique, you stamp your image(s) with the color ink pads you wish to use and with your watercolor painter you blend the details of your image together.  Simple, fun and beautiful!  I used the stamps set Flowers of Friendship and my inks were Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point, Granny Apple Green and Gorgeous Grape.  I started out adding Bermuda Bay as stated in my video, but I later chose to use that color cardstock to complete my final card.

Check out my video to see how all of these are made.
